Home Assistant Connect
ZBT-2 and ZWA-2
Two adapters, two protocols, one decision. Add Zigbee, Thread, or Z-Wave to any Home Assistant installation with official, plug-and-play USB hardware. No cloud, no subscriptions—just local control.

The Short Answer
Get the ZBT-2 if you want to run Zigbee devices, pair Thread or Matter accessories, or are starting a new local smart home network.
Get the ZWA-2 if you already own Z-Wave locks, switches, or sensors, or if your setup is built around Z-Wave.
Most new builds start with ZBT-2; ZWA-2 is the right add-on when you need to bring Z-Wave hardware into the same Home Assistant installation.

Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2
The Connect ZBT-2 is the official successor to the discontinued ZBT-1. It handles 802.15.4—the radio layer used by both Zigbee and Thread.
As a Zigbee coordinator, it manages your mesh network and can act as a router to extend range. As a Thread border router, it bridges Thread devices (including Matter accessories) to your network without a separate hub.
Under the hood, it runs on the Silicon Labs MG24 chip, offering significantly faster response times and optimized antenna performance.

Home Assistant Connect ZWA-2
The Connect ZWA-2 is the Z-Wave companion to the ZBT-2. It enables control of Z-Wave door locks, wall switches, and sensors locally.
Because Z-Wave operates on a sub-1 GHz frequency, it doesn't interfere with your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Zigbee networks. You can run both the ZBT-2 and ZWA-2 simultaneously in the same installation.
Note: Always ensure you order the correct regional variant for your specific location's radio frequencies.

Common Hardware Questions
Technical insights for your home network planning.
Concurrent Operation
The ZBT-2 hardware supports both Zigbee and Thread at the chip level. Whether both can be active simultaneously depends on the current firmware version—check official documentation before planning your mesh.
Zigbee2MQTT Support
Yes. The ZBT-2 is fully compatible with both the built-in ZHA integration and Zigbee2MQTT, giving you total freedom in how you manage your devices.
USB Extension Cables
Highly recommended. Placing the antenna away from metal enclosures and RF noise from other USB ports significantly improves range and reliability.
